Debate Seminar in Kyushu 2008
The Faculty of Languages & Cultures of Kyushu University sponsored its 3rd annual English debate seminar at the Ropponmatsu Campus on October 7th 2008, cosponsored with the English Speaking Union of Japan and Kyushu University English Speaking Society, supported by the Fukuoka Japan-British Society. It featured demonstration debates and lectures. The motion for the two debates was "This house believes that cancer patients should be informed about their diagnosis and prognosis."

今日、日本では英語によるコミュニケーション能力や論理的思考力を高める手段として英語ディベートが注目を浴びています。中でも即興性や説得性も重視する英国式ディベート（以下、パーラメンタリーディベート）は、国内のみならず世界各国での近年の主流となりつつあります。日本英語交流連盟の協力のもと、今年もパーラメンタリーディベートセミナーを開催いたしました。　本場英国よりトップレベルの学生ディベーター４名と専門講師を招聘して行うこのセミナーは、九州地区では今年で３度目の開催となります。白熱した議論のやりとりやベテラン講師によるレクチャーなどを学べる貴重なチャンスでした。
